Which Countries Require Travel Insurance for Tourists to Enter?

We never did travel worry free, but now the new restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic have devastated the tourism sector. We understand it can be confusing navigating yourself and your family through vaccination requirements, testing requirements, and now not to mention, some countries require proof of travel insurance for entry as a tourist. 

Please note: this list of countries that require travel insurance is not comprehensive. Many countries have additional travel requirements, such as pre-registration, proof of a recent, negative COVID-19 test, proof of vaccination, and / or quarantine measures. Check your destination’s policies and requirements before you leave for your trip.

  1. Anguilla – Passengers must have health insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses. 

  1. Belarus – Passengers must have health insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses.

  1. Belize – Passengers must have Belize specific travel health insurance.

  1. Bolivia – Passengers must have insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses.

  1. Chile – Passengers must have travel insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses with a minimum coverage of $30,000 USD

  1. Costa Rica – Passengers entering Costa Rica must have travel insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses and accommodation costs valid for the period of intended stay. Passengers traveling through Costa Rica must have travel insurance for a minimum of 5 days to cover COVID-19 expenses.

  1. Curaçao – Passengers must have medical insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses.

  1. Israel – Passengers must have health insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses.

  1. Jordan – Passengers must have health insurance valid for the period of intended stay.

  1. South Korea – For ease of restrictions, passengers must have travel insurance with a minimum coverage of $25,100 USD for COVID-19 related medical expenses.

  1. Mauritius – Passengers must have health insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses.

  1. Philippines – Passengers must have travel insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses, with a minimum coverage of $35,000 USD.

  1. Sri Lanka – Passengers must have travel insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses, with a minimum coverage of $50,000 USD.

  1. Suriname – Passengers must have medical insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses for at least 30 days.

  1. Turks & Caicos – Passengers must have insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses.

  1. Ukraine – Passengers must have insurance to cover medical expenses.

  1. United Arab Emirates – Passengers arriving at airports such as Dubai (DXB) and Sajarah (SHJ) must have health insurance. 

  1. Uruguay – Passengers must have health insurance to cover COVID-19 expenses.

As mentioned above, this list is not comprehensive, and is constantly changing everyday. Keep up to date with your Destination’s embassy as well as the International Air Transport Association’s destination tracker.  

Goose’s COVID-19 policy is an annual policy with a single premium based on your age and smoking status. It includes benefits for quarantine expenses following a positive COVID-19 diagnosis with up to $200 a day, to a maximum of $2,800 for meals and accommodations. It also provides Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption coverage up to $2,500 per person, per trip! Finally, this policy provides up to $500,000 for eligible medical expenses for COVID-19 related reasons.
