In order to limit the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Global Affairs Canada has issued travel advisories for many destinations around the world. How might this impact your Goose travel insurance coverage?

Emergency Medical

Travellers may be covered if there’s no advisory in place; however, if a travel advisory has been issued and individuals still choose to go on their trip, they won’t be covered under Goose’s Emergency Medical if the sickness or injury is directly or indirectly caused by the reason for the travel advisory/warning.

Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption

Travellers may be covered when Global Affairs Canada or PHAC has issued a travel advisory which recommends to “Avoid all travel” or “Avoid non-essential travel” to the travel destination. The advisory must be issued after the trip was booked and after the policy was purchased for coverage to apply.

For Trip Cancellation, the travel advisory must still be in place at the time of scheduled departure. For Trip Interruption, the travel advisory must be issued after departure and during the scheduled travel dates.

UPDATE: Travellers who have yet to book their trip as of March 4, 2020 will not be covered, as the virus is a known circumstance to travellers. We will continue to monitor the situation, and will update our travel warnings as the virus progresses.

If travellers are making changes to their travel plans, they should contact their airline providers before Claims at TuGo.

What about Trip Cancellation on already-purchased annual plans?

If you bought an annual policy which included Trip Cancellation/Interruption coverage prior to March 4, 2020, your future trips can still be protected against cancellation and interruption caused by COVID-19. Please speak with a Goose agent for further clarification.
